We just got back from a little weekend, getaway to Vegas for our anniversary and the kids stayed home with family. They are always well loved and cared for when we are gone and we never have to worry about a thing! However, all four of us are homebodies…so I know that even when they are having fun, they often get a bit homesick. Last night after we got home, we spent a great evening together playing games, having pillow fights and just getting lots of hugs! Being with your people is just a good thing.
When the kids were going to bed, Cecilia had already fallen asleep and Ryker was still tossing and turning. The sweetest conversation ensued. “Mom,” he said, “I got really homesick. I was always having fun, but I felt…like a sad part inside of me, too. But, it was okay. ‘Cause when we went to the aquarium, I couldn’t reach to see the Penguins from inside of the bubble thing…and Cecilia lifted me up every time. And then I felt better. Cecilia always makes me feel better and more safe. So I was fine, Mom.”
Don’t we all need that person? That person who makes us feel better and more safe? Cecilia is Ryker’s person and he is hers. And I’m just so thankful for that. I know there may be times in their lives where they don’t want to talk to me or their Dad about something…they will need each other for those times. They may not always see eye to eye, and they may fight from time to time…but mostly, they have each other’s backs and they are always there to lift each other up…every time they need it!
If you have those people in your life, the people who lift you up when you need it…don’t take them for granted. Tell them what they mean to you and how they make you feel! Maybe they are family and maybe they aren’t…but whoever they are, you need them and they need you! So hold your people close, they are a precious gift!
